Abstract
The static polarizability of neutral metal clusters with many atoms is calc ulated within the frames of the Thomas-Fermi approximation. It is shown tha t the value of the polarizability exceeds the bulk limit because of a diffu se form of electron distribution. The simple analytic expression for the tu nneling ionization rate of metal cluster ions by a low frequency laser fiel d is found using ADK approach.
