To reduce noise radiated from vibrating surfaces of mechanical systems
, it is important to know the acoustic radiation efficiency of vibrati
ng surfaces and radiating modes by externally applied forces. However,
it is difficult to evaluate the acoustic radiation efficiences of lar
ge systems because of their complicated structures. The reciprocity me
thod, which is developed for evaluating ship structures, is a useful t
ool for the investigation of sound transfer functions from a particula
r system to its surrounding medium. In this paper, the application of
the reciprocity method for evaluating the acoustic radiation efficienc
y of the hull plate is described.
