Abstract
The possibility of aerogel tiles production for RICH detectors is described . Monolithic blocks of silica aerogel were synthesized by two-step sol-gel processing of tetraethoxysilane Si(OEt)(4) followed by high temperature sup ercritical drying with organic solvent. The important characteristic of aer ogel is the light scattering length. In the wide range of refraction indexe s the light scattering length exceeds 4 cm at 400 nm. (C) 1999 Elsevier Sci ence B.V.
