A Monte Carlo simulation model, which incorporates the effect of tensile fo
rces as well as diffusion, is proposed to explain the behavior of water tra
nsport in a saturated porous gel. The algorithm is able to account for the
puzzling moisture profiles, which were first observed by conventional magne
