Nuclear fusion, quasifission, fission, and cluster formation in excited nuc
lei are considered as processes of the formation and evolution of a dinucle
ar system. In this approach, new aspects of nuclear fusion are revealed and
the important role of quasifission in the fusion of superheavy elements is
demonstrated. A qualitative pattern of the fission of excited nuclei, wher
e the formation of clusters play an important role, is given.
