T. Yamashita et al., Career decision-making in college students. cross-cultural comparisons forJapan and Korea, PSYCHOL REP, 84(3), 1999, pp. 1143-1157
The purpose of the present study was to examine and compare Japanese (580 m
en and 494 women) and Korean (577 men and 436 women) college students' awar
eness and views related to occupation. Surveys regarding vocational motives
, college performance and experiences, and perspective on timing of life ev
ents were conducted on 1,074 Japanese and 1,013 Korean college students. An
alysis shows that, although Japanese and Korean students have similar occup
ational views, there are also several cross-cultural differences, which can
be explained mainly by the conscription system in Korea.
