The photon-energy dependence of quantum well states around the belly of the
Fermi surface has been investigated by means of angle-resolved photoemissi
on in very thin copper films (up to six monolayers) deposited at 140 K on f
cc-Co(100). They display energy-dependent cross-section and dispersion with
k(perpendicular to), indicating their resonant character. The correspondin
g Cu/Co resonant band has been plotted within the bulk Brillouin zone of fe
e-Co. This band approaches minority and majority Delta(1) cobalt bands at d
ifferent parts along the Gamma X axis. Such a behavior suggests a changing
spin character across the Brillouin zone, which should be observable in spi
n-resolved photoemission as a function of photon energy. (C) 1999 Elsevier
