Two new methods for obtaining exact solutions of the initial-value problem
on an unbounded straight line (the Cauchy problem) for the inhomogeneous Bu
rgers equation are considered. They are applied to the cases of a stationar
y and a transient external force. A self-similar solution and a solution wh
ich describes the localization (blocking) of solitary traveling waves are o
