Treatment of acute laminitis - Supportive therapy

This article presents the essential elements and principles of supportive t herapies for the horse with acute laminitis. The pertinent anatomy and func tion of the normal foot are reviewed, as is the pathophysiology of the acut e phase of the disease. The underlying principles and practical application of techniques necessary to limiting further digital damage via removal of the inciting cause, mechanical support, trimming, and reduction of edema ar e presented and discussed.
