HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHIC STUDY OF FORMATION OF N-NITROSOPROPRANOLOL IN SIMULATED GASTRIC-JUICE

A specific high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been dev eloped to study the formation of N-nitrosopropranolol in simulated gas tric juice from the drug propranolol. This method is capable of detect ing the nitrosation reaction in various conditions which are present i n the stomach and to study how pH, substrate concentration, reaction i nhibitors and catalysts work in the nitrosation reaction. This method reaches its target in quantitating N-nitroso propranolol, with a high degree of accuracy and precision, in World Health Organisation (WHO) c onditions and in a therapeutic gastric concentration of the drug.
