The shape of two-phase liquid drops has been investigated under conditions
where perfect wetting of the less dense liquid by the denser liquid prevail
s. Experiments have been performed in the Ga-Pb system at 600 K. Laplace's
equation was used to determine the surface energies of the coexisting Ga-ri
ch and Pb-rich liquids. These energies were then employed to calculate the
shape of the internal liquid-liquid interface. Numerical solutions, and fin
ite element solutions obtained by means of the Surface Evolver program, are
shown to be consistent. (C) 1999 Acta Metallurgica Inc. Published by Elsev
