Abstract
The shock-compression properties of liquid deuterium and hydrogen are studi ed by means of the variational fluid perturbation theory. The present theor etical results are in excellent agreement with RRY theory and Nellis' exper imental data. The present calculation for the shock temperatures are higher than Holmes' experimental data, the reason for the apparent agreement of t he pressures and for the higher shock tempraturas are explained.
