A statistical theory of transgranular brittle fracture for metals is discus
sed. According to the continuum model of interface energy describing the in
teraction between transgranular brittle crack and grain boundaries and none
quilibrium statistical theory of fracture, the crack growth rate, fracture
strength, fracture toughness, brittle-ductile transition temperature and th
eir statistical distribution functions changing with grain size and interfa
ce energy are derived in a unified theory.
