Abstract
A new nuclide 238Th was produced via multinucleon transfer reaction by 60 M eV/u O-18 ion irradiation of the natural uranium. The thorium was radiochem ically separated from the mixture of uranium and reaction products. The gro wth and decay of Pa-238 gamma rays was observed, identifying the 238Pa pare nt as Th-238. The half-life of Th-238 was determined to be 9.4 +/- 2.0 min.
