Mammalian counterparts of the yeast SRB/MED transcriptional 'mediator' comp lex have recently been identified. These complexes define a common cofactor requirement for diverse transcriptional activators and underscore the cons erved nature of the transcriptional machinery among eukaryotic organisms.
