H. Borman et al., Verrucous carcinoma of the ear following renal transplantation: a case report and review of the literature, EUR J PLAST, 22(5-6), 1999, pp. 267-269
Venucous carcinoma is a rare, well-differentiated and very low grade carcin
oma of the skin with a low potential for metastasis. The ear is an unusual
location for this tumor. On the other hand, although renal allograft recipi
ents are at increased risk for the development of cancer, the incidence of
verrucous carcinoma in these patients is extremely low. A patient who devel
oped verrucous carcinoma on the concha of the auricle following renal trans
plantation is presented. The lesion was treated by limited surgical excisio
n and without recurrence after 6 months. This clinicopathologic entity has
not previously been reported to occur on the ear in this patient population
.
