This paper investigates the impact of beta(momentum flux correction co
efficient) and k and k' (piezometric and ambient piezometric pressure
correction coefficients) on the selection of four inertial models: non
inertial, local inertial, convective inertial, and full inertial. k an
d k' do not affect model selection, but beta does. For beta values fro
m 1 to 2, the noninertial model always gives a better approximation to
the full inertial model than either the local or convective inertial
model. When beta value is equal to 1.25 or 1.33, which depends on what
kind of resistance formula is applied to represent the friction slope
, the noninertial model is exactly the same as the full inertial model
.
