Abstract
The SOAP strategy is a problem-solving strategy that provides a systematic approach to adapting instruction for students with learning and behavior di sorders (LBD). This strategy is based on four key assumptions. First, stude nts with LED, their families, and their friends are rich sources of informa tion relevant to the problem-solving process. Second, while one teacher can make a difference in the life of a student with LED, a team of professiona ls (e.g., including teachers, social workers) can make a tremendous differe nce in this student's life. Third, teachers can maximize success for studen ts with LED without taking a disproportionate amount of teacher time or dim inishing the education of other students. And fourth, problem-solving strat egies can incorporate ongoing functional assessment relevant to these stude nt's Individualized Education Plans.
