Abstract
Neutron powder diffraction has been performed on orthorhombic HoPtGe2 cryst allizing in space group Immm. Lattice constants are a=4.321(3) Angstrom, b= 16.344(3) Angstrom, and c=8.731(5) Angstrom. Refined atomic positional para meters are given. A magnetic phase transition from paramagnetism into a can ted antiferromagnetic structure occurs at the Neel temperature T-N=8.5 K. T he ordered moments at Ho sites 4i and 4h are 8.1 mu(B), and 4.0 mu(B) at 4. 2 K, respectively; the moments are aligned within the nb and be plane, resp ectively. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.
