Cytometric data as the basis for rigorous models of cell population dynamics

Population balance equations provide a rigorous framework to describe the d ynamics of growing cell populations. Because cells are so small their dynam ic properties usually cannot be measured directly. Flow cytometry data can provide access to this information and thus parameters of the population ba lance equations can be determined which makes application of this theory po ssible.
