Abstract
A lesson of 100 years ago guides the forestry program at the SUNY College o f Environmental Science and Forestry:forestry is value-driven and science-b ased. This leads to a goal of educating professionals to be problemsolvers and leaders and, as a consequence, lifelong learners. Recent changes in the professional program are driven by internal accountability, responses to t he needs of potential students and their future employers, and shifts towar d external funding.
