Abstract
Use of leaky modes allows us to demonstrate very simply that Cerenkov second-harmonic generation is not free of phase matching. The Cerenkov phase-matching condition is derived for what is to our knowledge the first time. The way to overcome the difficulty linked with the diverge nce at infinity of the leaky modes is discussed. (C) 1997 Optical Soci ety of America.
