Abstract
Some amorphous materials of compositions Fe56Co7Ni7Zr6Nb2.5M1.5B20 (M = Zr, Ta,Ti,Mo) and Nd50-xCexFe40 Si10-yAly (0 less than or equal to x < 15 at.%; 0 less than or equal to y less than or equal to 5 at.%) were investigated with the view to enlarge the supercooled liquid region and to improve the s oft and hard magnetic properties. We performed a comparative study for the alloys in ribbon and bulk shape. Saturation magnetisation upto 1.06 T, coer cive field of about 6 A/m and magnetic permeability of 10(4) in the as-cast state were found for the Fe-based alloys. Coercivities upto 305 kA/m and r emanence upto 0.18 T were measured for the Nd50Fe40Si10 amorphous ribbons. The partial replacement of Nd with Ce or Ce-mischmetal (Ce-mm) and of Si wi th Al in the Nd50Fe40Si10 amorphous alloy increased glass-forming ability ( GFA). (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
