V. Kim et al., THE EFFECT OF ELECTROLYTES AND SURFACTANTS ON HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS AND AGGREGATION OF POLYACRYLONITRILE IN DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 56(4), 1994, pp. 521-523
The effects of electrolytes and surfactants on the hydrodynamic charac
teristics of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) in dimethylformamide (DMF) were e
xamined using viscometry and photon correlation spectroscopy. It was f
ound that inorganic electrolytes show a strong salting-out effect on P
AN in DMF. Cationic surfactants were also found to affect the hydrodyn
amic characteristics of PAN in a DMF solution, whereas the effect of a
nionic surfactants was almost inconspicuous. The effect of surfactants
on structuration of PAN in DMF is discussed within the framework of t
he fractal concept.
