Emergence of low-molecular-weight heparins in cardiology

Drug therapy for the management of acute coronary syndromes is rapidly expa nding. Over the past few years, a number of new antithrombotic agents have been introduced, including low-molecular-weigh heparins. The epidemiology a nd pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes are discussed, with a histor ical perspective on the use of antithrombotic therapy.
