C. Ledevehat et al., THE EFFECTS OF CYCLO-3-FORT TREATMENT ON HEMORHEOLOGICAL DISTURBANCESDURING A PROVOKED VENOUS STASIS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY, Clinical hemorheology, 14, 1994, pp. 53-63
Venous insufficiency is well known to be accompanied by blood flow dis
turbances. In previous studies, we have already pointed-out the presen
ce of hemorheological abnormalities in this disease. The present study
is devoted towards the evaluation of hemorheologic and hemodynamic ch
anges induced by a provoked venous stasis in either normal subjects an
d patients with chronic venous insufficiency without varicose veins (C
VI). The provoked venous stasis consisted of a compression by a cuff a
t 100 mmHg during 10 minutes. Then, using the same procedure, we have
studied the effects of Cycle 3 Fort versus placebo. The results show a
significant red blood cell (RBC) hyperaggregation in patients. The ma
in emphasis was however on the deleterious effect of venous stasis on
RBC aggregation in patients. In regards to Cycle 3 Fort, it is shown t
o reduce the deleterious effects of the venous stasis after a 4-weeks
treatment. By contrast, hemodynamic parameters remained unchanged. The
se hemorheologic improvements might be related to intrinsic factors of
blood viscosity, seeing that we have no hemodynamic effect.
