Use of exogenous synthetic surfactant in a three month old ventilatory dependent infant

This is the first report describing the use of synthetic surfactant (Exosur f) in a 3 month old ventilatory dependent infant. We present an infant who developed chronic lung changes after being ventilated with high ventilatory setting for acute respiratory distress syndrome. He failed several attempt s of extubation. As a therapeutic trial, we used Exosurf via endotracheal t ube in a dose of 80mL/m(2), which resulted in improvement in the oxygenatio n and ventilation indices, followed with aggressive weaning from the ventil ator support.
