Mice exposed to a chronic auditory stressor and treated with fluoxetin
e (5 mg/kg) showed a reduction in stress-induced suppression of thymus
and spleen cellularity, and in peripheral T lymphocyte population. Th
e blastogenic response of spleen lymphoid cells and the delayed type h
ypersensitivity response (DTH) to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) were al
so assessed and fluoxetine was found to partially reverse the inhibito
ry effect of stress on both parameters. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Inc.
