Voluntary ingestion of a superwarfarin rodenticide by an adolescent

Suicide attempts are frequent during adolescence. Intentional ingestion of rate poison is not well known in France. The complications of this are prol onged and may be serious. Case report. - An adolescent, 15 years old, with clinical hemorrhagic syndr ome, had coagulation deficiency. Rat poison had been found in serum. The yo ung girl recognized later that the ingestion of these toxins was intentiona l. Conclusion. - Suicide attempt with rat poison is exceptional, but we have t o mention it when vitamin K-dependent factors failed without any other expl ication. (C) 1999 Elsevier, Paris.
