A data chart for field description and genetic interpretation of glacial diamicts and associated sediments - with examples from Greenland, Iceland, and Denmark

A data chart is presented for detailed field description of sediment succes sions containing glacial diamicts and associated sediments. The design is b ased on field experience from modem glacial environments in Greenland and I celand and ancient deposits in Denmark. The data chart proposes an integrat ed scheme that provides a synthesis of existing approaches to sediment desc ription in the field. Three examples of the use of the data chart and loggi ng technique illustrate its wide variability in comparison with the limited sedimentology practised by many scientists working with ancient glacial di amicts. It is concluded that the data chart might be a useful approach for recognition of the various possible types of glacial diamicts, but it does not assume to be a complete approach; it is the object of continuing discus sion and can be extended or modified.
