Abstract
A combined experimental model for a gravity die casting is presented. The experiments were shown to yield consistent results and confirmed e arlier studies, which showed that interfacial heat transfer depends on the casting solidification state and that only its maximum value is a ffected by die coat thickness. The numerical model was found to captur e the thermal transients when interface effects were included and when the removal of cores was accounted for in the analysis. To reflect th is process, an integrated cyclic analysis is demonstrated capturing th e thermal behaviour during fill, solidification and die open stages in the casting cycle.
