Abstract
The proteolytic cleavage of BlaI was shown to correlate with beta-lactamase synthesis in Staphylococcus aureus. BlaI was found to be autoregulatory wh en expressed from the blaZ promoter. Insertion of a 10-bp linker into the S naBI site of blaRI resulted in constitutive synthesis of beta-lactamase. (C ) 1999 Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
