Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of 310 pregnancies after intracytoplasm
atic sperm injection (ICSI) at one institution.
Methods: Chart reviews.
Results: The pregnancy rate per transfer was 27.2 %. The multiple pregnancy
rate was 21 %. The overall pregnancy loss rate was 25.7 % (74 spontaneous
abortions, 4 tubal pregnancies and 2 heterotopic pregnancies). Prenatal eva
luation was performed in 34.1 % of cases. The only abnormalities were seen
in patients with a positive family history and an abnormal karyotype in one
parent. 37 % of the spontaneous abortions available for analysis showed ab
normal karyotypes, a rate consistent with the literature. In eight couples
in which the male partner had a chromosomal anomaly there were no differenc
es in fertilization rates or pregnancy rates. The multiple pregnancies did
not seem to be associated with an increased rate of complications of pregna
ncy.
Conclusion: These results are consistent with those in the literature.
