Abstract
A method for detection, quantification, and characterization of protea se activities present in the insect cell/baculovirus protein expressio n system was demonstrated. Proteases were found of 39, 44, and 52 kDa molecular weight. Enzymatic inhibitors (antipain, chymostatin, EDTA, p epstatin A), cofactors (e.g., ATP, Mg2+, Ca2+), pH, and substrates (ge latin, beta-galactosidase, bovine serum albumin) were varied to improv e and characterize the activities.
