Abstract
ZrO2-Y2O3-Al2O3 ceramics and fibers were studied by Raman and luminescence spectroscopy techniques. Both Raman and luminescence spectra were shown to be sensitive to the crystal structure of the materials studied. The conclus ion was drawn that different forms of ZrO2 can be distinguished using the e mission from the Cr3+ ion, which substitutes for Zr4+ in the cubic phase. T he ceramic fibers prepared by drawing melt drops were found to be amorphous .
