Abstract
Progress and problems encountered in the development of a demonstrator of t he fast switching, digital motion profile generator based on the electro-rh eological catch/brake are set down. Limiting accelerations of similar to 50 g have been obtained but with inadequate reliability - evidenced by the ons et of avalanche current at high duty loadings.
