The surface appearance of a motor vehicle is an important property to a pot
ential customer. Gloss has been measured for many years, but new measuremen
t instruments enable the orange-peel effect to be quantified. This enables
statistical experimental design techniques to he used to reduce to orange p
eeling.
This paper describes the authors' experience of the use of experimental des
ign techniques to investigate the influence of process variables of electro
static spinning bells on the final point finish.
