Abstract
In Botswana, the Earth Science Education programme is based at the Universi ty of Botswana in the Department of Geology, which is one of seven departme nts in the Faculty of Science. Initially the new department had three acade mic staff members; this number has later increased to eight and, most recen tly, to ten academic posts. Since the programme's inception in 1980, 84 gra duates completed the undergraduate geological studies. The Geology B.Sc. pr ogramme gives a choice between a single major in Geology and three combined majors: Geology/Environmental Sciences, Geology/Chemistry and Geology/Phys ics. Postgraduate programmes are currently under preparation. All Geology g raduates are employed by the Botswana Government institutions and private c ompanies. An active research programme, related to both local and internati onal projects is conducted. This involves co-operation with national instit utions and international organisations.
