Abstract
A finite element method formulation for the detection of unknown steady bou ndary conditions in heat conduction and linear elasticity and combined ther moelasticity continuum problems is presented The present finite element met hod formulation is capable of determining displacements, surface stresses, temperatures, and hear fluxes on the boundaries where such quantities are u nknown or inaccessible, provided such quantities ale sufficiently overspeci fied on other boundaries. Details of the discretization, linens system solu tion techniques, and sample results Sor two-dimensional problems are presen ted.
