A new method has been developed for obtaining heat- and moisture-resistant
high-efficiency polarization structures for the visible and near-infrared s
pectral regions, based on using oriented anisometric metallic particles cre
ated in a heat-resistant polymer matrix. The spectral polarization and oper
ational parameters of metallic systems based on silver are investigated. Th
e prospects for using them in liquid-crystal projection-type information di
splays are pointed out. (C) 1999 The Optical Society of America. [S1070- 97
