Abstract
We compute the effective potential of a system composed of a Dp-brane and a separated <(Dp)over bar>-brane at tree level in string theory. We show exp licitly that the tachyon condenses and that the scalars which describe tran sverse fluctuations acquire a vev proportional to the distance.
