Living donation is now generally regarded as a standard-procedure for kidne
y transplantation in patients with end-stage renal failure. The educational
work in the past lead to an increasing acceptance of living donation in th
e public. The number of living donated renal transplantations performed by
only few transplant centers in Germany is increasing. The aim is to offer t
his possibility to each patient with end-stage renal disease. The prequisit
es, donor evaluation and the surgical methods are discussed.
