Abstract
A recirculating implementation of the crossover interconnection network bas ed on optoelectronic architecture is presented in this paper. A flip-chip a ssembled CMOS/SEED (self-electro-optic-effect device) smart pixel array is used in this construction. The SEED array performs the optical-electrical c onversion using a number of detectors and modulators while the CMOS devices handle the efficient logical processing. A combination of these two device s makes the interconnection of the optical system reconfigurable in each st age. As a result, a single stage optoelectronic set-up is sufficient to imp lement the whole multistage crossover interconnection network in a recircul ating manner. A considerable amount of hardware is thus saved. (C) 1999 Els evier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
