We investigate the coherence properties of trions (charged excitons) and ne
utral excitons in modulation p-doped CdTe/CdMgZnTe quantum wells by means o
f femtosecond four-wave-mixing (FWM) experiments. Under simultaneous and co
herent excitation of the exciton and trion resonances, we observe a modulat
ion of the FWM traces due to quantum beats. This excludes a complete spatia
l separation of trions and neutral excitons. A minor contribution from pola
rization interferences is explained by the superposition of signals from lo
calized trions and free excitons. [S0163-1829(99)05731-8].
