Collective flows in heavy ion collisions are shown to be largely dependent
on the symmetry term of the nuclear Equation of State (EOS). A comparison w
ith data leads to a clear evidence for a strong increase of the repulsion o
f the symmetry term above normal density. This will also imply noticeable d
ifferences in the neutron and proton components to be seen in the transvers
e flows of light ions. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
