Chinese cabbage plants (Brassica pekinensis [Lour] Rupr. cv. Nagaoka 50) we
re cultivated in Granada (Southern Spain) under floating mulch, consisting
of polyethylene (T-1); or polypropylene (T-2); their yields (total and comm
ercial) were compared with the yields of not covered control plants (T-0).
The latter gave the lowest commercial yield. Semi-forcing with floating mul
ch improved the yield of T-2 and still more that of T-1 Semi-forcing with f
loating mulch is an efficient way of improving Chinese cabbage yields in So
uthern Spain.
