The yields of Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis [Lour] Rupr. cv. Nagaoka
50), grown in Granada (Southern Spain) under floating polyethylene (T-1) a
nd polypropylene (T-2) covers, were compared with uncovered controls (T-0).
Five samplings were carried out. Optimum foliar range of the following bio
chemical indicators were determined: in vivo nitrate reductase activity.(NR
A); NRA+ NO3- and NRA+ NO3- + Mo; in vitro, NRA and nitrite reductase activ
ity (NiRA); in vivo pyruvate kinase activity (PKA) and foliar acid-phosphat
ase activity (FAPA). The following physiological indicators were measured:
proteins, soluble amino acids, proline, glucose, fructose, sucrose, starch,
chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll(a+b), chlorophyll ratio (a
:b) carotenes, lycopenes and anthocyanins.
