Abstract
According to results from two field studies (permission according 17 c Abs. 4 No. 2 TierSG) the safety of the modified live virus vaccine Ingelvac(R) PRRS MLV in sows at all stages of pregnancy is demonstrated. Problems of th e definite diagnosis of a PRRSV infection, influences of the management to the efficacy of the vaccination as well as suggestions for herd vaccination in comparison to pre breeding vaccination are discussed. From the results it can be concluded that herd vaccination has potential benefits compared t o pre breeding vaccination under special management conditions.
