Neonatal isoerythrolysis is a form of immunohaemolytic anaemia of the newbo
rn foal. It results in the destruction of the blood cells of neonates by co
lostral antibodies directed against erythrocyte antigens inherited by the f
oal from the stallion. The incidence, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnos
is, therapy and strategies for the prevention of equine neonatal isoreythro
lysis are reviewed based on the author's own clinical experience and on pub
lished literature.
