Studies on banding phenomena in a sulphurised steel

Efforts were directed towards improving the quality of a sulphur bearing se mi-free cutting steel by way of reducing the ferrite-pearlite banding level . An optimised homogenisation cycle could be established to achieve this go al and in course of the investigations for characterising the bands, specif ic processing stages were identified, while analysing the influencing param eters. An improved understanding of the phenomena, critical for the quality enhancement of the above grade of steel, could be achieved.
